When I got home last night, my geekiness was confirmed. I found out I had gotten a package in the mail.
The contents, fortunately uneaten, were laying on the table. I was all excited. My ol' man must have thought it was a little strange for me to be that excited over some granola bars because he asked, "what are you going to do with those?" I told him I was going to blog about them. He gave me an odd look and turned back around to watch tv.
While I was letting dinner simmer on the stove I had a few minutes to take a closer look at my "granola bars." Turns out they're not granola bars, they're more like nutritious, good for you bars. The front of the package said to read the list of ingredients, so I flipped it over and was shocked. I could actually pronounce everything that was in them!
INGREDIENTS: 100% Organic Valencia Peanut Butter, 100% Organic Raw Honey, 100% Organic Oats, 100% Organic Raw Hemp Seeds, 100% Organic Cold Milled Flax, 100% Organic Raw Sesame Seeds, Organic Vanilla, Celtic Sea Salt.
Did you see the part about hemp seeds? *giggle* So I was thinking these bars might be a little more "special" than I'd first thought. I googled it and it turns out hemp seeds don't make them that kind of "special." Come to find out though, hemp seeds are REALLY good for you. They're probably one of the best, if not the best food for you to eat. I'm not quite sure what they taste like by themselves, but from what I read they have a nutty taste.
So back to my husband. After dinner I was on the laptop googling hemp seeds. He asked me what I was looking at so I handed him the peanut butter honey bar and told him to read the ingredients. The first thing he said was, "they're not like that, but I've heard they're really good for you." I opened the package and handed him half of it.
Now years ago my husband and I went on a little bit of a health kick. We didn't instantly go from junk food to good for you food, but once we did we liked it. Long story short, we started letting the "health kick" take over our lives. We got a little overstressed one day and finally, he popped the question. "Do you want a Coke and a cigarette?" It was almost as good as him proposing to me. Ever since then we've had a good balance between being healthy and being happy.
The reason I told you that is because if you've never had anything healthy in your mouth, you may not like these. My daughter's friend, an 18 year old, tried a bite of the breakfast bar. She didn't like it at all, but then come to find out she doesn't like hardly anything except Little Debbie snacks. My 18 year old wouldn't even touch it. I got my 20 year old daughter who is a vegetarian to try it. She's a "lacto-ovo vegetarian" which means she drinks milk and eats eggs (she had to spell it and explain it to me). She also likes Little Debbie snacks, but before last night it had been a really long time since she had one. Anyway, she wanted to inspect the package first and then she took a bite. Her reaction was more pleasant than my daughter's friend. The only thing she didn't like about it was the honey, but she doesn't like honey.
My husband and I both agreed these were REALLY good. As a matter of fact, he said I should send them an email right away and let them know. And that's why I'm letting you know because I've decided to sell these in my shop. These are something that I personally would take with me on rides to eat instead of getting a Snickers when we stopped. For $10.00 you get a peanut butter honey bar, a breakfast bar and a peanut butter chocolate bar and it includes shipping.

I like reading your blog!!!

Thanks! I love getting comments! You should start one on music stuff. You'd be good at it.
ReplyDeleteSo balance in life, as in riding a bike, is the key. I have been known to eat a "balanced, health-conscious meal followed by a snickers bar and coke because sometimes granola is just not sweet enough to satisfy. Walking the middle path is not sitting on the fence (which implies wishy-washy-ness). It means that you are moving forward and keeping options option. While I TEND to LEAN to the left, I never want to get so far afield, I cannot view nor appreciate another point of view. Great blog, girl!
