Cannonball Run: Part One

I knew I wouldn't have as much time as I wanted to get this posted so I decided to split it up into two parts.  It'll be worth coming back to see part two so request me on facebook or click "follow" over there on the side and I'll make sure you know when  I've posted Cannonball Run: Part Two.

A couple of weeks ago my ol' man told me about the Antique Motorcycles Cannonball Run and said that they were going to be making a stop in Hot Springs, Arkansas. When I was a younger kid (I'm still a kid right?) my step-dad would take our family to antique car shows and he and my mom collected antiques, so I grew up with a fondness for antiques.  Of course, now I have a fondness for motorcycles.  You put the two together and for me it's like peanut butter and chocolate!

The race started in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina and will end in Santa Monica, California.  The entire course is over 3,000 miles. They left the starting point a week ago and will be at the finish line a week from Sunday. That would be quite an accomplishment in itself, but imagine riding that many miles in that many days on a pre-1916 motorcycle!

I was expecting to walk around like you do at an antique car show, admire a bike, nod your head at the owners or say "hi, how are you", take a picture or two and then move on to the next one. THIS was my kind of antique show.  You could feel the excitement from the two blocks away where we parked (didn't know there was available parking where the bikes were displayed). When we got closer I immediately whipped out my phone and started snapping pictures.  These bikes were amazing!

You wanted to ask the riders questions not only because you really wanted to know the answers, but because you could tell they honestly wanted to answer you before it just bubbled right out of them. I had a chance to talk to a few of the riders and even got to sit on a million dollar motorcycle.  That will all be in Part Two. Hopefully I'll have it posted by sometime tomorrow so stay tuned!
