A Thousand Miles For His Little Girl

This morning I logged onto facebook and saw a post from a friend of mine.
Hey guys im gonna be doing a ride called the iron butt run. I will be riding 1000 mi in 24 hrs. I am going to be looking for sponsors or fellow riders to help raise money. if you ride you need to get your own sponsors. All donations will go towards Lily's surgery and help us get to houston. If we raise more than enough money we will donate it to Childrens Hospital in Little Rock. We will not use it for personal use.
Lily is Tommy and Kristen Jones' little girl. I worked with Tommy and Kristen at a call center for about a year.  I remember when Kristen found out she was pregnant. She had complications with previous pregnancies and you could tell every minute she was holding her breath hoping everything would be okay. Tommy and I worked in the same department and he was so happy that he was going to be a daddy. Right before I quit, Lily was going to be born any day and Tommy was about to get a motorcycle.  That was almost 6 months ago.  So you can't help but know how much he loves his daughter to take a 1,000 mile ride just for her. I think if anyone deserves a Sore Saddle Award he definitely will.  His saddle is definitely going to be sore when he gets back!

Lily has Erb's Palsy, also known as waiter's tip.  When she was born she was pulled from the birth canal causing her damage to the nerves in her shoulder which has left her arm paralyzed.  If she can have surgery before she's 6 months old, it should restore at least 70% of the use of her arm.  She's 5 months old now and the doctors want to do surgery within the next couple of weeks.

As soon as I found out about this I wanted to do what I could to help.  I'm hoping that you'll like to make a donation per mile by leaving a comment with your email address and how much you'll be sponsoring him per mile or make a lump sum donation by clicking the button below.

Tommy will be leaving from Hot Springs, Arkansas on November 6, 2010 and riding to Birmingham, Alabama and back.  I'll keep you updated with any information as I get it and the progress of the ride on November  6th.

  2. Okay I'll spot you 7 and 1/2 cents a mile. That's $75 bucks.

This operation should not be charged to the parents, this should be taken care of by the Hospital who caused the problem but the first order of business is getting the child the help she needs. Oh and for future reference, Shriners Hospitals would do this for free and I could help with that. I want you to read this: http://www.alepposhriners.com/alepp_shriners_news/5-2008/21_oct%2008.pdf
Then you can contact me at my blog if you wish. Shriners does not ever, and I mean NEVER EVER charge for their services. You should post the Shriner link on the blog to educate people.

  3. The way I look at this is, if my child had the same problem, what would I do? Without a doubt I would try to raise the money needed to put it right, so I will play my part and give $100. Good luck to Tommy!

  4. Chris, I have a suggestion about this. Can you send an email to me with your e-mail address that I can write to you at? Mine is gary.france9@googlemail. com (except take out the additional space I have put in to prevent automated spammers from recording my address!)
